Manhattan Skyline Panorama by Chris Halford on Flickr.Via Flickr:
This is a test shot - I’m heading back soon to do it again (right this time).
From New Jersey I took 13 images of Manhattan Island starting from the Upper West all the way down to the bottom of Lower Manhattan, and across to New Jersey.
If you look at it full size, you can actually see and count windows in the buildings.
At a reasonable resolution for print I should be able to output this at 10 inches high by 13 feet wide. That’d look cool on the wall!
If you look really carefully you can see a few interesting things:
1. The Concord is parked next to the Intrepid.
2. The Verrazano Narrows Bridge is peeking out.
3. While she’s a bit hard to see here, the Statue of Liberty is also showing.
OK, I did a few things wrong and I can correct them next time:
1. f/22 is not as sharp as I’d like. I’m going to lower to somewhere between f/4 and f/11 next time.
2. The light at that time of day sucked. The sun was aimed right at the lens. Didn’t help the clarity
3. I was using a Tilt-Shift and took advantage of its’ sharpness, but not it’s tilt. I can compensate better using the Tilt-Shift next time.
4. I rushed it…. Next time I won’t.
Perhaps I’ll shoot it closer to sun set next time. That’ll require mechanical precision in each step though as the colour of the sky changes rapidly and I’ll want each shot to blend nicely together.
As stated above, this one was a test. The good one will come next.
Click on the image to see it with a black background and then follow the “all sizes” link if you want to get in closer to the detail. This is a bit noisy, so come back in the next few weeks to see a better version.
90s Theme NYE Costume by MrMarkCann on Flickr.Via Flickr:
I’m going as a slightly obsessed Kurt Cobain fan. I seem to remember a lot of them in the 90s.
Shot using 3 lights, 2 bare strobes at either side of me for the edge rim lights and one high above camera in softbox.
Over the top processing in Photoshop, sharpening, added contrast, curves, messed with the eyes. Bit too much really but I wasn’t doing this for any reason other then trying the lighting setup.

Not sure if these are some lyrics or what, but I found these on the PDF that came with a free download I got with their Apples & Eve album

This is my favorite part. The part that holds the CD is clear so when you take the CD out, you see this. The image was taken while cross-country skiing out in Stony Creek Metropark

Frankenstein 012: Frankenspock by bob canada on Flickr.Via Flickr:
It’s high time I added to my somewhat neglected 100 Frankensteins Project. So here, straight from the final frontier we have a mash-up of two of my favorite things: Frankenstein and Star Trek. It’s Frankenspock and his lovely fellow officer… Lieutenant Bride of Frankenspock.
When I was sketching out this idea, I originally drew the Monster much, much skinnier, similar to the real Spock. The slim build was truer to both characters, but it just looked sort of meh as a drawing. So I decided to forgo accuracy and beef up the Monster’s frame considerably.
I had planned on drawing the Bride’s leg’s wrapped in bandages, like the original character, but I decided against it. I wanted her to look sexy, and bandaged legs just don’t look very alluring.
Unlike a lot of people, I don’t like listening to music while I draw. I will sometimes turn on the TV though for some background noise. I had the TV on while I was drawing this and guess what came on? Yep, Bride of Frankenstein! Synchronicity!
About those female Starfleet uniforms: What kind of an organization would make its members wear such a thing? I get the real-world reason why the women on the show all wore ultra-short miniskirts: To boost the ratings among the male demographic. And boost them they did! But that doesn’t explain the in-universe reasoning. Starfleet is supposed to be this progressive, high-minded equal opportunity organization. These women are all highly trained officers. So why make them dress like cocktail waitresses?
